Difficile scrivere qualcosa su Robert Wyatt e su questa musica senza incorrere in uno dei più temibili caratteri psicologici della Scimmia Cattiva, il Fanatico; anzi in uno dei sottogeneri: il Fanatico molesto dall'occhio inumidito ("queste-cose-non-le-fanno-più, Signor mio").
Vi invito, perciò, ad un solo impegno: ascoltare la prima tripletta dal primo album dei Soft Machine: le due Hope for happiness intercalate da Joy of a toy (ascritte, rispettivamente, a B. Hopper-Ayers-Ratledge e alla sola coppia Ayers-Ratledge), e magnificate dalla voce e dall'interpretazione di Wyatt.
Ho riascoltato il tris pochi giorni fa, dopo qualche anno, e forse più.
Non mi si tolgono dalla mente. Che dire? Impossibile non commuoversi.
